Recruitment Guide |
Our local, national and international clients
keep us on the edge of new legislation, industry
developments and provide us with ample opportunity
to grow and share our knowledge. The core client
base is highly entrepreneurial and evolving, from
start-ups and juniors to large integrated exploration
and production companies. We are often there to
advise them through their evolution.
The firm culture is a reflection of the clientele,
entrepreneurial and evolving. Status as an independent
contractor to the firm, where students and associates
are paid by the billable hour and without billable
hour targets; allows for flexible work hours and
immediate tangible rewards for initiative. Thackray
Burgess recognizes the importance of investing
in the future, and endeavours to expose students
to a variety of clients and matters, with the
long-term goal of "grassroots" growth
through our articling program. To date every articling
student we have ever hired has been retained at
the firm as an associate at the completion of
their articles.
All articling students at Thackray Burgess can
expect exposure to legal work in the areas of
civil litigation, administrative and/or regulatory
law, wills and estates, corporate governance and
general corporate commercial matters. But it is
very important for all prospective candidates
to understand the primary focus of all Thackray
Burgess articling students will be learning and
developing a solicitor's practice in the area
of energy law. Be prepared to work one on one
with the clients in their offices, direct research
and due diligence, draft contracts and assist
in closings. Explore our practice
areas in more detail.
2009-2010 ARTICLING YEAR
Thackray Burgess has filled all available articling
positions for the 2009-2010 articling year.
2010-2011 ARTICLING YEAR
Thackray Burgess does not participate in the matching
program, but we conduct interviews and extend
offers of employment during the same time period
as the matching program. We will begin to assess
and interview prospective candidates for 2010-2011
articling positions in early June, 2009.
If you are a law student graduating in the spring
of 2010 and you are a self-starter with an interest
in practising energy law, please forward your
cover letter, resume and university transcripts
by email or hardcopy.
